Beachcombing in Aruba: What You’ll Find
There’s something calming about walking a beach with no agenda.
No rush. No timeline. Just the rhythm of the waves and the quiet hope that something beautiful might catch your eye.
Welcome to beachcombing in Aruba – a slow, mindful way to experience the island’s natural beauty.
But what exactly can you find on these golden shores?
More than you think.
Here’s a look at the treasures waiting to be discovered as you explore Aruba’s coastline – especially if you know where (and how) to look.
1. Sea Glass (of course!)
Let’s start with the crown jewel.
Aruba is one of the Caribbean’s hidden hotspots for sea glass – smoothed and frosted by decades of waves, sun, and coral.
You’ll find:
- Seafoam greens
- Cobalt blues
- Rare lavenders and ambers
- And, if you’re lucky… deep red or even black glass
On our guided kayak tours, we take you to secret beaches where the best sea glass hides – far from the crowds and footsteps.
2. Shells & Coral Fragments
While Aruba’s shell game isn’t as wild as some Pacific islands, you’ll still spot:
- Small spiral shells
- Clam and scallop pieces
- Tumbled coral chunks (white, pink, and honey-toned)
Just remember: in Aruba, removing live coral or shells with marine life is prohibited. Be a respectful beachcomber – admire, photograph, and leave it be if unsure.
3. Driftwood & Sand-Sculpted Stone
Aruba’s currents bring in beautifully weathered driftwood – twisted, bleached, and smooth to the touch.
Perfect for home decor projects or as natural art.
You might also find:
- Pumice stone
- Volcanic rock
- Fossil-like imprints in stone
These pieces tell stories written by the sea itself.
4. Pottery & Tile Fragments
On rare occasions – especially after storms – you may spot chunks of old pottery or colored tile.
These could be leftovers from colonial trade, shipwreck debris, or simply long-forgotten beachside villas.
If it looks like it belongs in a museum… maybe leave it there
5. Rope, Nets & Marine Textiles (aka Ocean Junk)
Let’s be honest – not everything that washes up is magical.
Sometimes, beachcombing reveals the less glamorous side of the ocean:
Tangled fishing lines, synthetic rope, plastic bits.
But guess what? You can turn this into a mission.
Many eco-travelers use beachcombing as a mini clean-up – collecting marine waste as they go. We even encourage this on our tours.
Leave the beach better than you found it.
6. Peace, Presence & Perspective
It might sound cheesy – but often, the most valuable thing you find while beachcombing… isn’t a thing at all.
It’s that feeling of being grounded.
Breathing deeper.
Noticing more.
Letting go of the rush and tuning into nature’s rhythm.
In Aruba, beachcombing becomes meditation with waves. And trust us – it’s addictive in the best way.
